 How to Volunteer

SCFR are always looking for volunteers.

Our volunteers fall into two main categories, Operational, and Non Operational.

Operational Volunteers are the First Person on Scene trained members who attend emergencies, and Non-Operational Staff are those who support us. Important roles like fundraising and Administration.

The Process

Initially all volunteers are invited along to our meeting night, to get an idea of what being a First responder means, you get to talk to our active members, and get an idea of where we go and what we do.

• Application Process

This is same for the Operational and Non Operational branches, but both will involve filling out a disclosure.

• Operational Volunteers.

We like our operational volunteers to have some first aid experience, as this helps with the FPOS training. The candidate will be invited along, to discuss their role with our experienced staff, who will discuss the role and application process in more depth. Support volunteers  do not need any previous medical training.

Professional Developement

Within the Service, we have to undertake observational visits with frontline ambulance crews, as well as undergo constant skills updates. Within the team, we run regular training nights, not only on FPOS, but on related topics. Previous sessions  have included talks on drug awareness, and refresher courses on Defibrillation.
